James 5:12

Humans are the only creations of God in this dimension with the gift of communicating with words.

The Bible has a lot to say about words!

Words are powerful tools.

Words are meant to be constructive, but they can be destructive.

What are your words doing?

Look at the results. Is there joy, love, peace, unity and trust? Or is there fear, doubt, anger, mistrust and frustration?

James says "above all."

Don't swear by heaven or earth.

Matthew 5:33-37

1. You shouldn't have to swear on anything; let your word be enough.

2. Don't be deceptive.

When others (especially our children) see us lie it destroys the power of our words to teach them about the grace of God.

Let your yes be your yes and your no be your no. This means you have to be straight with people.

This is one of the ways we build a new kingdom in a dark world.

James 5:12b …or you will be condemned.

God is a god of His word.

He is building a kingdom based on truth.
Are you in or out?
