Where Faith Meets Life
THE KEY

James 5:14-15

  1. James is one of the earliest books written in the New Testament.
  2. They already had recognized church order.

When someone is sick he is to call the elders of the church to pray for him.

  1. The Prayer of Faith - James 5:15

Is this a guarantee? Will everyone be healed?

Sometimes God heals and sometimes He doesn’t.

  1. Paul was not healed. 2 Corinthians 12:7
  2. Trophimus was not healed.
2 Timothy 4:20 Erastus stayed in Corinth, and I left Trophimus sick in Miletus.
  1. In Nazareth and in the Pool of Bethsaida - Mark 6:5-6

Faith comes from God. - Ephesians 2:8

God, by His grace, stirs faith in us. We respond to His moving and God does a work in us.

He is Lord - James 5:14b

I have been told many times “I am believing God for my healing.”
That takes God out of the role of being Lord.
I am believing God for my life.

We pray for the sick.
My role as an elder is to pray for the sick.
My role as someone who is sick is to come for prayer like many did to Jesus, or to call for the elders to pray.

Then it is up to God.

It is a mistake to think God works independently from prayer.
God has voluntarily restricted Himself and He waits on us to invite Him in prayer.

  1. What about sickness and sin?

Some sickness, not all sickness, comes because of sin.

John 9:3
1 Corinthians 11:30-31

If I am sick I want to examine my life and see if I have sinned.

Your sickness is not tied to a sin unless in prayer God makes it clear that you have sinned, or it is a clear action of sin that brought about your sickness.

The outcome is in the hands of the Lord. Do I trust Him?

This verse was meant to stir action that would allow God’s name to be glorified through healing.
