Listen Up!

We need to learn how to be quick to listen and slow to speak. We need to plan how we are going to listen, rather than what we are going to say. If we become better listeners, then we will reap the rewards of that in our lives. We need to keep a tight reign on our tongue, and keep our ears open. We also need to humbly accept the Word of Truth. When we humbly accept God's Word, we recognize who we are and who God is.

Listen Up!

James 1:19-20

I. PRACTICAL RELATIONAL APPLICATION.

Many of us tend to be quick to speak.
Now this verse speaks more than simply telling us to wait before we speak.

You see, some people don’t speak at all but they are STILL NOT OBEYING THIS VERSE.

We are being taught to be quick to listen.

Hear = pay attention, understand, listen carefully.

Here is the change, Instead of Planning what we are going to say. Plan how you are going to listen.

RULE; BEFORE YOU SPEAK = UNDERSTAND.

The word Quick = as soon as possible.

Proverbs 12:18
When we change the adjectives we change the outcome.

Anger does not bring about the righteousness of God. Anger brings trouble.

II. PRACTICAL SPIRITUAL APPLICATION.

James 1:17–21
We start with being told that the ‘word of truth’ birthed us into God’s Kingdom.

We bookend this passage with the instruction ‘humbly accept the word planted in you, which can a save you.’

We should be quick to listen to the word of truth.

Hear = pay attention, understand, listen carefully, ALSO OBEY.

 Slow to Anger.

James 1:20.

James 1:21

How do we get rid of all moral filth and evil in us.

Humbly = recognizing who we are and who God is.
Accept = Put into application as truth.
The Word planted in you.
