Do Not Be Deceived!

Christians need to be anticipating the deception. Jesus told us that many would come in His name and perform miracles, but we need to know that Jesus is the only way. If people are not seeking a true relationship with God, then they are susceptible to false religion. When people start seeking thrills and demonstrations, that is when they are deceived by false religion. The Word clearly tells us what to watch for and how to be ready. We need to watch that we are not deceived.

PALM SUNDAY
DO NOT BE DECEIVED!
Mark Johnson
March 28, 2010

Matthew 24:3-14

Watch out that no one deceives you.

1. False Christ
            a. Those who claim to be Christ
                        Matthew 24:23
            b. Some will claim Christ is with them
            c. Some will be deceived by false religion
                  Matthew 24:24-27
When Christ appears next, He will appear to his followers to take them; then at the end of the Tribulation, to set up His rule.

Don’t be deceived by false Christ’s or claims of Christ – even if a miracle happens.

Warning:
  • Some people are looking for a thrill instead of a foundation.
  • Some are looking for a demonstration instead of a revelation.
  • These people are susceptible to false religion.
2. Wickedness
Matthew 24:12-14

The Greek word for wickedness is anomia (lawlessness). Definition: to behave in disregard for the law.
This applies to the Law of God.
In the last days there will be an increase in wickedness.

This is so appealing to the flesh that love for God grows cold.

It is a deception that destroys.

3. Carelessness
Some will be deceived because they are ruled by the wrong cares.

Matthew 24:36-39

There was lawlessness in the day of Noah, but what Jesus points out is the carelessness.

The wrong priorities ruled their lives. Living to please God was not a priority.

They were deceived just like people will be in the last days: a higher priority on the world than God.

Do not be deceived!
2 Thessalonians 2:9-12

“Lawlessness with appeal”
2 Thessalonians 2:10 …and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing.

They perish because they refuse to love the truth and so be saved.

James 1:18

We need the Word in our lives and in the lives of our children.

What do we love?
As in the days of Noah: not wrong in principle, wrong in priority.

2 Thessalonians 2:11-12

Do not be deceived!
