- Series: Where Faith Meets Life: A Study on the Book of James
We should not just listen to the Word of God. We need to apply it to our lives, and live it out everyday. We need to see ourselves as what we are, sinners. If we do not practice what we hear in the Word, then we have a false impression of what faith is. We need to live out the Word of God everyday.

Teaching and Preaching
James is talking about the power of the spoken Word of God into their lives.
James says listening is not enough, we must live it.
We are to come to the time of teaching with an attitude of application.
Romans 2:13

Deceiving Your Own Self
Deceive = to give a false impression.
Those who listen but don’t obey give themselves a false impression.
This is a false impression of their place before God.
James 1:23
James 1:24
THIS HAS TO DO WITH SEEING OURSELVES FOR WHAT WE ARE.
IF WE DON’T OBEY THE WORD, WE HAVE A FALSE IMPRESSION OF WHO WE ARE, AND WE ARE DECIEVED.
We need to approach teaching and study with a desire to live differently.
-
Look Intently
Here is the promise.
If I approach the word with a desire to learn…
-
The Word is perfect. It will give me a right view of the world and right approach to life.
-
The Word gives liberty. When you live by the Word, it gives you more and more power to be free from the inner enemies.
Attitudes and responses are mechanisms that destroy our goals, homes, and righteous desires.
-
If you continue…
Don’t forget the Word, but apply it all the time.
You will be blessed = (makarios) = Happy.
God’s joy will be in your life.
Are you struggling with joy?
Most of us want to change the circumstances.
-
Obey the Word.
2. Open your spirit to the Spirit of God.
